Green Utility Jacket – A His and Hers Fall Closet Staple

BOOKMARK THIS: his and hers green utility jackets for Fall

I dragged my hubby back onto the blog to share a men’s and women’s version of one of my favorite Fall wardrobe staples – a green utility jacket.   If you don’t have one already, I consider a utility jacket an essential piece of my Fall wardrobe.  I have had a green utility jacket in my closet for several years but I just updated mine and decided to grab one for my husband as well.    Chris was lacking in Fall layers and always seems to end up wearing hoodies.  Nordstrom is my favorite place to shop for both Chris and I.

Today happens to be our 6th wedding anniversary, so in addition to talking about each green utility jacket, I asked my hubby to share some marriage advice.  There were definitely times (years in fact) when our marriage was hanging on by a thread but the last 2 years have been really great.   Having kids has definitely been the biggest challenge (outside of that little heroin addiction hiccup) to maintaining a healthy relationship.

Men's Fall outfit - Green utility jacket and brown suede boots

Chris is wearing size large in this green utility jacket.   It’s thick but unlined.   It would look really good over a flannel shirt (perhaps for next year’s Fall family photos).  When I first got Chris these jeans he felt they were “too skinny” compared to his usual “relaxed” (i.e.: wide leg) pair but after a couple wears he loved them.   Chris works out 6 days a week and in my opinion these jeans flatter his ASSets much better than the baggy pairs he was wearing.  I love these suede boots (that slip right on so he doesn’t gripe about wearing them) to wear with jeans or dressier pants.  Do you use the sizing guides that Nordstrom puts alongside each item?   I find them super helpful when I’m shopping unfamiliar brands.

I am wearing size small in this utility jacket (that is now on sale, nearly identical on sale here).  I sized up a half size in these boots (which I normally do with boots to make sure I have room for socks).  My boots are the shade “dark mushroom” but there’s also another neutral brown color of these boots if your size is unavailable in dark mushroom.  If you don’t have any step hem jeans I think they’re a great style to wear through the Fall with booties.  Nordstrom has so many affordable options right now.

TIPS FOR A HAPPY MARRIAGE:

So here is (some of) the wisdom I have taken away in the last 6 years of marriage:

  • make time – every week – for alone time together (i.e.: a date, even if it has to be at home)
  • take on one hobby together, but keep some separate
  • vocalize what you want rather than expecting your partner knows or can guess
  • apologize easily
  • stroke his ego – all men like to be built up

And here is what my husband believes keeps a marriage strong:

  • try to be the hardest working parent
  • act as through your wife is the boss (without talking back)
  • choose venting (kindly) over a silent grudge
  • change your own action if you’re wanting a new result

I’d love to hear from you guys what’s helping to make your relationship a success! Drop a comment below if you have wisdom to share and as always, THANK YOU for stopping by.

Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post.

This was an awesome post! Thank you for being so real and open. I can relate to the struggle you went through with your husband. I have been with husband for six years and 3 of those were a struggle for the same reason. Things are wonderful now! God is good!
So I just wanted to say thanks. It’s good to know other people understand and can relate. You help so many that follow you just by being open, honest and real!

Happy anniversary! Y’all are too cute. I liked the advice about time together every week and trying to be the hardest working parent. I hope y’all had a fun time celebrating!
