athleisure outfit: pink turtleneck sweater over wine colored spanx leggings and rose gold nike sneakersI read not so long ago (via Who What Wear) that French women do not dig the athleisure trend.  As a mom who is out on the town with two little boys most of the time I have embraced the trend and put all my egg in its basket.

For me, athleisure is a trend that makes comfortable outfits still look like you gave some thought to your style.   A fun sneaker, leggings or joggers, and a comfortable top.  In this outfit I went with a cozy turtleneck sweater.   Online this color is called beige, but it is actually more pink than beige.  I also love layering vests with athleisure outfits.   I think vests are a great way to add interest to an outfit.

With the holidays coming up I will be super busy with school events, holiday shopping, baking, and parties.   Running around all day I am so happy athleisure is considered stylish.  If you like the trend but aren’t sure where to start I have picked several pieces I like that might get you started.

First, the footwear.   You want a shoe that is clean and stylish.  I have plenty of shoes I have run muddy obstacles courses in but can’t seem to let go of.  These are not the shoes I wear to run errands.   I love these metallic Nike sneakers and think they are particularly festive for holiday shopping!   No cuter way to run around the mall on Black Friday than in these sneakers.  Here are some shoe picks I like:

As far as bottoms – I love leggings.  I think they’re so easy and I often wear faux leather leggings because to me they are a bit more chic than regular cotton leggings.  If you are not comfortable in something so fitted I also love joggers.   Here are some items I like:

I link an oversized top over leggings.  I love the look of a big sweater or long jacket/sweatshirt or even a thin knit under a moto jacket.  Here are some of my suggestions:

Don’t forget to accessorize so you won’t borderline on frumpy.   Good jewelry, a scarf, a hat – all of these things add layers of style to your cozy, chic outfit.

What do you think?  Do you like athleisure?  Will any comfortably chic items be on your holiday wishlist?
