How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe For a Warm Weather Vacation

what to wear on vacation

We are in Puerto Rico with the kids to break up the Winter months so I’m sharing a post with some essential vacation capsule wardrobe pieces.

I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe but I am struggling to downsize my wardrobe at home.  I was so motivated to downsize my closet after reading the KonMari method of tidying up – so I should probably reread the book.  I read the book when Cam was 2 months old and my hubby was in rehab so I didn’t have a lot of spare time on my hands to clear out my closet.  When it comes to my vacation wardrobe I do much better at choosing essential pieces because I don’t want to lug around extra items in my suitcase or have extra laundry to do when we return.

A vacation capsule wardrobe to me would be a great pair of denim shorts, white skinny jeans, flat and wedge sandals, two bathing suits and swim cover-ups, 3-4 tops, and a nice dress for dinner.   When I am on vacation I am more likely to repeat a favorite outfit because who is really noticing what I just wore 2 days ago?

So here are some of my favorite pieces which could be used to be together a vacation capsule wardrobe:

Shoes:

Swim:

Tops:

Bottoms:

Accessories:

I also love to include pieces that can be worn more than one way to save space in my suitcase.   For instance this lace tank dress (the only item that didn’t wrinkle in my suitcase on my recent vacation) can be worn without the slip as a beach cover-up and this beach cover up can be knotted up like a top.

And finally – I always bring my steamer on vacation!   Everything gets wrinkled in my suit case and this steamer is small and heats up super fast so it’s a total game changer when it comes to looking polished.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up is amazing! I just did a post on my blog about her book. My closet and dresser are in such better shape now. I feel like a weight has been lifted! Check out my post at finewineandtatertots.com

yes!!! it’s a great read and what a good post idea. I get so many clothes sent to me I’m overwhelmed. I have started donating to a women’s shelter near me and that is helping.
