Today I am sharing some fun holiday theme party ideas in collaboration with ModCloth.
5 Fun Holiday Theme Party Ideas
All of the holiday parties I’ve attended in the last few years have been very adult. It doesn’t take much to please me – food and drinks are plenty. I used to put in a lot more effort and it made the parties a lot more memorable. In my 20’s I used to host a sexy Santa themed holiday party and I was usually one of the few people who dressed up. The parties were a lot more fun than just eating and having a couple glasses of wine.
These days I’m much less sexy so my themes are much more tame. I thought this would be a great post to do with ModCloth because they have so many fun and quirky gifts this holiday season. ModCloth doesn’t just sell clothes for women of all sizes but unique items for the home and holiday gifts you won’t find elsewhere. If you want to be a stand-out, festive, holiday party guest make sure to check out their holiday attire.
Holiday Theme Party Ideas
Here are 5 fun holiday theme party ideas (that if you host I want an invite to).
- Gingerbread House Construction Party (great for with kids too)
- Christmas Pajama Party (serve Bloody Mary’s and brunch food)
- Reindeer Games (i.e.: lots of party games)
- Tacky Christmas Sweater Party (see outfit suggestions below)
- Après Ski Party
What is an après ski holiday theme party?
So I have to admit that I just learned this fancy new term “après ski”. Apparently this refers to the after party that goes down when snow bunnies finish on the slopes. I am unathletic so I’m more into cocktail sipping than skiing anyway. Even better to sip cocktails with friends in a cozy lodge-like setting.
To host an après ski holiday theme party here are some things you might want to include:
- Hot cocoa bar (consider including Bailey’s for an adult-only version).
- Cozy fireplace seating
- Faux animal mounts
- Add lights to anything that doesn’t move
- Leggings with sweaters
Ask your guests to wear festive holiday attire. Leggings and sweaters scream cozy ski lodge. ModCloth has some AWESOME holiday sweater options that are sure to amuse guests at a holiday theme party.
If you’re a leggings person, like me, ModCloth has a lot of festive leggings as well! I have been wearing these holiday leggings around the house as I cook and decorate. ModCloth also has a lot of festive socks as well.
If you prefer to wear something that gives you the ski lodge feel but is something you can re-wear after the holidays ModCloth has tons of cute cold weather accessories.
Preparing for my ski lodge holiday theme party…
I added flannel to my breakfast nook to give it a cozy, lodge-like feel.
Faux animal head mounts make me think of a ski lodge. Around the holidays I like to add lights to any stationary decor.
Wouldn’t it be nice to go to a party where you could wear slippers instead of heels?
We actually have a firepit in our backyard but that would have involved taking my slippers off so I’m roasting marshmallows in the fireplace. I checked online and it’s fine to roast marshmallows over a gas fireplace. Does that change your life? I’m not letting my kids in on this info.
SHOP MY OUTFIT
I am wearing size small in the sweater tunic. It’s definitely something you can wear for lounging or outside the house (see below). If you don’t have fleece lined slipper socks you MUST get some if you live in a cold climate. This pair is under $20 and has non-slip skids on the bottom.
Your guests will remember how you made them feel. Surprise them and make them laugh. This hat is one of a few funny options you can find on ModCloth’s site. The muffin top baking cups are funny hostess gift if you’re attending rather than hosting the party.
