I love a good neutral capsule wardrobe. The idea is to group versatile, basic wardrobe pieces that can be restyled in many outfit combinations. The goal is to have a wardrobe of items that are flexible and can be worn a variety of different ways for a single season. I always try to pick a good range of pieces and of course ones that are fairly budget-friendly. I rarely invest in wardrobe pieces, but basics are somewhere I will throw in a little extra money. Many of these pieces are things I wear throughout the year, so I want them to hold up well to wash and wear.
Winter Capsule Wardrobe Tops
I focus on light colors in a variety of styles and fabrics. Obviously, a basic long sleeve bodysuit is key in a wardrobe because it is such an amazing layering piece for under cardigans, sweater vests, jackets, etc. I have and absolutely love this turtleneck sweater. It’s great quality and long enough for leggings. This sweater is one of my most recent amazon purchases and I love it as well.
Winter Capsule Wardrobe Bottoms
For bottoms, I wanted to keep it super simple. A staple pair of skinny jeans is always a must in the winter. I went for these white skinny jeans because I love a winter white outfit!
You also have to have a killer pair of leggings in your wardrobe in the winter so I of course opted for my all-time favorite black Amazon leggings. I also included a pair of faux leather leggings. I don’t own these myself, but the reviews are amazing!
Winter Capsule Wardrobe Outerwear
I wanted to keep it simple for outerwear, too. It can be easy to overdo it in the outerwear department and then have an overflowing closet (I know first hand), so I’m focusing on just the staples. Obviously, you need something warm and reliable so I chose this puffer jacket that will go with everything. Next, coats! One camel coat and another black option – you will always have a coat to match any outfit with these two colors. And, of course, I included this shawl (it’s reversible!).

Winter Capsule Wardrobe Shoes and Accessories
A simple white sneaker will go with so many things not only in the winter but year-round. I love the velcro on these Veja sneakers. They are perfect for throwing on and running out the door. For something a little more trendy, I’m loving the chunky Chelsea boots look. And, of course, a wintery hiking boot to keep you warm and a classic bootie is a must for winter.
In the accessory department, you need at least one good beanie and a soft scarf. Preferably two that match shades. Often in the winter, I gravitate towards slightly larger leather tote since I can carry a little more in them (great for throwing in your mittens, hats, etc.). It also comes in black!
Amazon Winter Capsule Wardrobe Outfit Ideas
The beautiful thing about the capsule wardrobe is how easily everything interchanges. You can mix and match almost all the tops with the bottoms and shoes and vice versa to get endless outfit ideas and combinations. Thanks so much for stopping by! I’d love to hear from you. What’s your one must-have item for winter?
