I used to think of breakfast in bed as something that happened pretty much one day a year – Mother’s Day. I never received breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day or showered my own mom with such favors so I’m not sure where that came from. Now that I have early birds in my house we have breakfast in bed a couple times a month. Today we celebrated FRIYAY!!!
Breakfast in bed doesn’t have to be fancy. I serve what I’m making for breakfast anyway – sometimes I try to dress up the plate a little more. To me, and my 3 year old, anything served on a tray makes us feel fancy. So today I brought him waffles, and me coffee, and we took 10 minutes together in bed to start the day a little more peaceful than the usual morning rush. Since my second was born my older son and I don’t get enough 1 on 1 time and his behavior shows it. Reconnecting like this makes us fall back in love just like the old days 🙂
Thanks to a 5:50 am car that drove by blasting its radio I was up at 6 am. So I had time to prepare my son’s favorite breakfast – which is actually very quick. He calls these “love waffles” because of the color. I just add a tablespoon of organic beet root powder (which is a natural food coloring) to my waffle mix and a handful of organic chocolate chips. I’ve talked before about how much I use my waffle maker – it helps me get a homemade breakfast done even when I have to be at work for 7:30 am.
So next time you wake up early, throw your crowd favorite blender muffins or savory waffles on a tray and impress your family. Maybe it’s because I live with all boys, but it does seem true that the way to their hearts is through their stomachs.
