Fall Capsule Wardrobe 2017 From Nordstrom

When I asked you guys what kind of Fall blog posts you wanted to read the most popular responses were Fall capsule wardrobe ideas and how to style booties.    I will be getting to the post about styling boots and booties soon.   Today in collaboration with Nordstrom I am sharing a Fall capsule wardrobe.   A capsule wardrobe is pretty much the basic and essential items you’ll need to dress for the majority of your occasions (work days, weekend days, evenings out, etc).   So I went through and hand-picked some basic wardrobe pieces that I thought would help as building blocks for a great Fall 2017 wardrobe.  I kept almost every piece (2 exceptions) under $100.

While Nordstrom is a great place to get trendy items I use it most often for my wardrobe basics.  Nordstrom has such good customer service.  Last season I bought a pair of trendy jeans and twice the seam split after one wash and Nordstrom kindly exchanged each pair without question.   Since capsule pieces tend to be the most frequently worn pieces in one’s wardrobe it’s good to buy them at a retailer like Nordstrom that stands behind their products.

Key Pieces for a Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Fall Outerwear

A great utility jacket and vest will carry you through many of the outdoor Fall events like picking pumpkins and foliage hikes.  I linked 2 utility jackets below because it’s such a closet staple in my opinion.   Find a utility jacket you love because it’s something you can wear for YEARS to come.  I also love a moto jacket (I have this one in size small) to dress up for date night or down for a polished athleisure look.  Lastly, a cozy poncho is a comfortable way to make your leggings look chic.

Fall Tops

Basic tees are a must!!  Layering is a huge part of Fall fashion.   I always grab a couple cardigans because I live in New England where Fall temperatures fluctuate quite a bit.  Tunics, plaid and chambray shirts, and light sweaters all pair well with denim or leggings and boots.  For size reference I have several of these tops.   The plaid button down, olive tunic, peplum camisole and Leith circle cardigan all run a little big.  The BP and Lush tees are true to size.

Fall Pants

Since I’m not working in an office at the moment I wear either jeans or leggings almost every day.   It wasn’t long ago that I did work in an office.  I almost always wore skinny black (or white in the Summer) ankle trousers to work.

Fall Footwear

A neutral over the knee boot is so chic for dressing up or even with jeans.   I often gravitate towards taupe shoes and bags because the mix of gray and beige makes the color perfect to pair with most any outfit.  A pair of black or nude pumps will carry you through work and evenings out and a solid pair of plain sneakers is perfect for the weekend.

Fall Accessories

I love a crossbody bag because it can be worn several ways and is very practical.  I love the look of a satchel bag as well.  Don’t forget scarves!   A scarf can elevate a jeans and tee outfit to a very polished look.

This cropped jacket runs a little big and the peplum cami runs small.  The step hem jeans are true to size and one of my most worn pieces of denim.   My peep toe block heels are the perfect dusty-rose-taupe suede.   Doesn’t that sound like the perfect color?   The shoes are true to size and surprisingly comfortable.

If you feel a little unnerved in spaghetti straps (ME!!!!) try wearing a lace bralette under the camisole.  It’s a pretty layering piece and gives a little extra coverage.
