Fall Family Photo Outfit Ideas

What to Wear for Family Photos

Do you ever look back on old photos and say to yourself: “what was I thinking wearing that outfit”? Family photoshoots are a fun occasion you get to do maybe once or twice a year. It’s normal for families to want to use this occasion to dress up moreso than they usually do. My advice is to have fun with outfit colors/styles, but stay true to your family’s style. We stuck with a neutral color palette as that is what we normally wear. You can always add a pop of color like we did with Chris and Cam’s red plaid shirts. Another tip when deciding what to wear for family photos is to avoid trend pieces. Keeping it classic means you won’t end up on the awkward family photos website because you decided to say “yes to the vest”.

Family Fall Attire For Mom

Taking from my own advice that I mentioned in my Family Photoshoot Tips post, I coordinated Chris and the boys’ outfits by building off from my own. I decided to go with my flattering grey sweater dress (wearing XS) paired with my all-time favorite denim jacket (wearing small).

Family Fall Attire For Dad

Chris is wearing classic blue jeans, a nice neutral pullover sweater layered over a classic button-up shirt. This is a can’t-go-wrong outfit suitable for just about anyone. If you want to switch it up, instead of the sweater, you can try layering with a cardigan like this one. His shoes aren’t available online, but here are a similar dressy pair as well as a similar casual option.

Family Fall Attire for Boys

Another tip I like to follow is to coordinate, but not match. Yes, Cam and Chris are matching, but how awkward would we look if we were all wearing the same plaid/sweater/jean combo? That’s my exception to the rule for coordinating outfits. Plus, how cute do their daddy and me outfits look?

For Mac, I chose pieces that would create a mommy and me version for the two of us. You can’t go wrong with blue jeans and a white v-neck tee. We dressed it up with a casual light blue blazer (it shrinks in the wash so size up if in between) which complimented my dress and denim jacket nicely.
