When it comes to adding pieces to your wardrobe there are times to splurge and times to save. For certain items that I know will be timeless and I’ll wear over and over, it’s usually worth it to splurge to get the higher quality. Other times, I just want something for the season and so a save item is a better choice. While splurge items are usually higher quality, sometimes the item doesn’t always justify the price tag. At the end of the day, you need to find whatever fits your own budget.
So, for these reasons I wanted to share a round-up of Save Vs. Splurge items for fall. We’ll look at the fall 2018 must-have items and I’ll share a save item and a splurge item for each!
Suede Moto Jacket
SAVE: Old Navy is a GREAT spot for save jackets and outerwear. Rock this season’s “it” jacket, a suede moto jacket with asymmetrical zipper at a deep discount. It also comes in seven different color options! I ordered this in small tall and it was too big but my color choice is sold out in XS. The jacket is amazing though – I highly recommend it.
SPLURGE: The Blank NYC moto jacket is our splurge option. This jacket is real leather suede with a lined interior meaning it’s going to be a higher quality than the polyester blend from Old Navy.
V-Neck Sweater
SAVE: This classic v-neck sweater is one you’ll wear all fall and winter. However, it is 100% polyester, unlike our splurge which is mostly nylon (nylon tends to be softer).
SPLURGE: This Free People v-neck sweater just SCREAMS cozy. Mega comfy and plush in an ultrasoft knit. And, like I said the nylon material will be softer.
Utility Field Jacket
SAVE: Once again, Old Navy coming through with outerwear choices. This Twill Field Jacket is a great length and has a cinched-in waist so it offers a great shape. At under $40, it’s hard to beat the price for a fall staple like this!
SPLURGE: If you’re looking to splurge the Halogen Field Jacket is a beautiful option. It has a slightly more classic look and also offers the drawstring waist.
Suede Knee-High Slouchy Boots
SAVE: You guys know I LOVE the Target shoe section and when it comes to fall shoe staples they don’t disappoint. This affordable knee-high suede boot is under $40, it’s hard to beat a price like that!
SPLURGE: Sometimes shoes can be the best place to splurge because they really do last a lot longer when you invest in a good pair. This suede boot from Sam Edelman is real suede and a classic style. You’ve seen me wear them a lot lately on my Instagram page. In the stock photo you can’t tell they have a slouchy fit.
Camel Cardigan
SAVE: This save camel cardigan from Target is a great option if you don’t want to spend too much but want to rock the camel trend. Keep in mind this is a little thinner than the splurge option and in a lower quality fabric.
SPLURGE: Nothing says splurge like a CASHMERE cardigan, am I right?! The fabric is ultra plush and you can feel the quality difference. I also love the oversized pockets.
Classic Plaid Button-Down
SAVE: Relaxed plaid button-downs never go out of style and you can scoop them up in all the colors at Old Navy at a great price.
SPLURGE: The coveted Rails plaid button-down is a cult favorite for a reason. Crafted from a super soft fabric in a relaxed yet figure-flattering fit – you’ll not regret splurging on this item.
Sweatshirt Dresses
SAVE: I have this Abercrombie and Fitch fleece dress in XS tall. It’s so cozy and easy to layer for fall.
SPLURGE: This Splendid sweatshirt dress is versatile and could be worn over leggings as it cools down. Would you pay over $100 for a sweatshirt dress?
Ankle Boots
SAVE: Once again, Target comes through with amazing shoes. The v-cut on the side of these ankle boots is super trendy this year and rock it for under $25 with this save option. You can’t beat that price!
SPLURGE: If you want to splurge, Steve Madden also makes a v-cut ankle boot and you know you’ll get quality with Steve! This splurge option also offers a slightly chunkier heel as well.
