This time of year, because of the cold, my kids are less eager to get outside (you can see it on Cam’s face above).  Don’t we all get a bit cranky from cabin fever?   Thanks to Backcountry we are bundled up and ready to take on some outdoor adventures.   One of the ways I get my kids outside year round is planning scavenger hunts.

While shopping for updated winter gear on Backcountry this season I opted to coordinate my family with warm winter coats that all had fur trim hoods.   My husband is also in need of new snow gloves this season because he’s in charge of snow blowing.   He doesn’t know it yet but he’s getting this pair from Santa.

Winter Scavenger Hunt For Kids

As I mentioned, this is my go-to way to get the kids outside when we are getting stir crazy.   I enlist my kids to help make the list of items we will be finding.   This keeps them invested from start to finish.   Sometimes we do nature hunts on a local trail and other times we just hunt around our residential neighborhood.   We make the list of items based on where we are headed (and I try to make it relatively simple since my kids are are 6 and 3).  Some examples of things we put on our nature trail winter scavenger hunt include:

  • 2 squirrels
  • 5 evergreen trees
  • a tree with zero leaves
  • 5 birds
  • 1 fellow hiker to say “hi” to
  • 1 pinecone
  • 1 tree with a hole

Not only are we a family with coordinating fur trim winter jackets but we also all reach for our Sorel boots!!   Backcountry has an amazing selection of Sorel boots for everyone in the family.   If you live where you face inclement winter weather like me, Sorel boots are my favorites!!   I have tried the dupes but my feet FREEZE in the knock-offs.   Sorel boots are waterproof and warm so in my opinion they’re worth the investment if you want to leave the house on cold winter days.   I bought my first pair of Sorel boots 6 years ago and they still look new despite all the blizzards I’ve worn them through.

All of our coats fit true to size.  My pink Volcom coat is in and out of stock in the size I am wearing (XS) but keep checking back because it has restocked several times.   If for some reason you order something that doesn’t fit or you aren’t happy with your item Backcountry has the BEST customer service!!

Chris and I are both wearing hats from Backcountry as well!

Do you buy clothes for anyone else in your family?   I’m wondering if I’m the only one who imposes their style on the family members they purchase for.   My kids are known to wear Sorel boots with leggings and oversized fleece jackets just like their mom.

Thanks so much for stopping by.   If you’re a first time Backcountry customer you can get 15% off your first order with code RACHELM15.

Thank you to Backcountry and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.
