Hey friends! Tackling another room in our home with the help of the crew at Raymour & Flanigan. This is a guest room in our home that two months ago was storing boxes of my brother’s old clothes. First, a before:
Not bad, but not to my tastes. I wanted to lighten and brighten the room to make it feel more welcoming.
One big difference you will notice is that we had our hardwood floors refinished to a lighter color. You can read more about refinishing our red oak hardwood floors in this blog post. Then I recruited my hubby to paint the walls Benjamin Moore “Classic Gray”. He also hung a ceiling fan (that doubles as a light) for me. I am a big fan of bedroom ceiling fans.
Once the bones for the room were more my style, I planned out the furniture. Raymour & Flanigan has full bedroom sets or you can mix and match individual pieces like I did. They have brick and mortar stores, but I chose to shop online. Raymour & Flanigan carries all types of styles (farmhouse, coastal, etc) at great price points. I’ll link you to all the pieces I selected in case you want to shop online as well.
The bed. I wanted a queen size neutral bed, but not too light because occasionally we have guests with pets. Bedding is easier to wash than furniture. This upholstered queen bed is just what I was looking for and it has two storage drawers at the foot of the bed. I use those to store extra bedding.
The nightstands (unfortunately sold out at the moment). WOW!! These are even better in person than they are online. I thought the light drawer fronts were painted but they are leather which makes them look so high end up close.
The lamps I placed on the nightstands are textured and a beautiful muted sage green color. They have some gray and blue tones depending on the time of day. These lamps are a great size for this space.
The bench at the foot of the bed is also sold out at the moment. It is actually an outdoor furniture piece. I love to place a bench at the end of the bed for collecting clothes – eeek, bad habit, but when I do get around to putting the clothes away the bench is a great styling piece as well. You can check out bedroom benches on Raymour & Flanigan here.
The rug is an indoor/outdoor rug so it’s very durable and stain resistant. I ordered the color taupe. I find the color of rugs show a bit different in person compared to online photos and this one exceeded my expectations. There is more blue in the rug in person than my eye picked up online and I LOVE how it compliments all the neutral pieces.
My Design Dilemma
What I’m still contemplating is wall decor behind the bed. Left of the bed there is a window, but there is a pitched roof behind that wall so we won’t be adding a symmetrical window. I am a big fan of symmetry when it comes to design so I’m debating how to proceed. Any suggestions?

It is worth mentioning that Raymour & Flanigan’s delivery included set up. This saved us so much time and clean up. Anyone else feel like their home is overflowing with cardboard? The two staff who set up the furniture were courteous, quick, and clean.
Raymour & Flanigan sells a lot of decor you can find links to the bedding and decor not from Raymour & Flanigan in this LiketoKnow.it post.

September 10, 2020 at 9:44 pmI can’t wait to see what you do about the asymmetrical window issue – we have that in our master bedroom. I have thought of adding a mirror on the wall to mimic a window but that seems expected and since this is the master, I want something a little more❤️
