EEEK!! It’s here. SO MUCH PREPARATION goes into this sale so I’m happy to be able to share with you the pieces I think you will love. As I’ve reiterated on social media – I think the pressure from bloggers to BUY BUY BUY has been a little intense the last few years when it comes to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale so I’m working to be more purposeful with my purchases this year. I hope this can be an example for those of you who are trying to stick to a budget.
I will be sharing a fall capsule wardrobe here tomorrow. Many of you probably have similar items to what’s included in your closet so I am hopeful it can help guide you to a select few pieces you might want for fall. Shoes are probably the best deal of the sale and they tend sell out first!
This post is a try on. I did not take all these items home with me. I gave honest feedback on all these pieces below. I’ll be sharing more on
Instagram stories and talking about what I am ordering that wasn’t in stock at my local Nordstrom store. I will be adding more try on photos to this post throughout the sale so give you helpful sizing info and feedback.
HIGH SELL OUT RISK!!!!! Barefoot Dreams Cardigan (XS/S) // BP tee (small) // Articles of Society High Rise Jeans (true to size, size down if between) The hype around this cardigan is REAL!! I have the stone (tan) color and wasn’t planning to grab the gray but I took it home because — FOMO!!! This gray color is so good and these cardigans wash so well. I’ve had my tan one for years and it still looks new. These cardigans sell out quickly during the NSALE which is why I took it home. I can always return it if I change my mind but if I decided in a week I wanted it I knew I’d be out of luck.
HIGH SELL OUT RISK – Madewell Colorblock Cardigan (XS) // BP Tee (XS) // Articles of Society High Rise Jeans (TTS, size down if between) // Ear Crawlers Madewell cardigans always sell out quickly when they go on sale. They also tend to run big. I’m wearing the XS and it’s big. I’m hoping to see XXS sizing available online.
BP Cardigan (XS) // BP Striped Tee (small) // Spanx Jeggings (small) I wasn’t planning to even try this cardigan on. It’s not a color I usually reach for but for $30 I figured I’d try it on. I ended up loving it. I think it will pair well with boots for fall. I’d size down if you’re between sizes. I like the Spanx leggings more than I thought I would but I have Old Navy Sculpt jeggings I like just as much for a fraction of the price so I passed on the Spanx pair.
Socialite Thermal (Small) // Alo Moto Joggers (small) This top is so soft and hence why I included it in my first buys. The joggers look almost identical to a Recovery Wear pair so while these are lovely, I didn’t take them home since I own something so similar. They inseam on these is long, so if you’re petite, these joggers might not work for you.
Free People Tunic Sweater (wearing small because X-small was not available) You’ll see some bloggers wearing this sweater as a dress….since I am 5’11” and 37 years old, that won’t be the case for me :). No one wants to see these bare buns! The sweater, like many Free People items, is very oversized, so consider sizing down based on the look you’re going for.
Free People Thermal (XS) // Spanx Jeggings (Small) // Panacea Layered Necklace (not included in the sale) Free People everyday tops always sell out quickly in smaller sizes since they run big. I’d size down in this. It will pair well with a bralette. The creamy white color is a tad sheer – but nothing offensive since it doesn’t cling. I like the Spanx leggings more than I thought I would but I have Old Navy Sculpt jeggings I like just as much for a fraction of the price so I passed on the Spanx pair.
BP Cardigan (XS) // BP Leopard Cami (XS) // Articles of Society High Rise Skinny Jeans (true to size, down down if between) I was pleasantly surprised by this cardigan as I mentioned before. I often size up in cardigan but I wouldn’t in this one. The cami is good quality for the price and will be cute under blazers, Moto jackets, and cardigans in the fall. I prefer the Wit and Wisdom jeans to this pair by Articles of Society.
HIGH SELL OUT RISK!!! BP Ivory Cami (XS) The only thing different here is the cami. It’s actually the same fit as the leopard cami (adjustable straps) and this one sells out SO FAST every year. They keep bringing it back for the NSALE every year because it’s such a great staple.
Thread and Supply Quilted Jacket (XS) The sleeves on this jacket were far too short for me but it’s otherwise very cute. It comes in a grayish/green color as well. It was warm – perfect for cool fall days (if you don’t have long arms).
Striped Pajama Set (XS) The pants on this set were just a little more cropped than I was looking for but the material on these pj’s was very comfortable.
Button Front Cardigan (still working to track this link down) (XS) // BP tee (XS) // Articles of Society High Rise Skinny Jeans (true to size (size down if between) I hadn’t seen this cardigan in the preview so I almost passed it by in the store. It’s a shorter fit than my other cardigans without being cropped. I didn’t end up taking this home but I really liked it.
Leith Cardigan (XS) // BP Tee (XS) // Layered Panacea Necklace (not included in the sale) // Articles of Society High Rise Skinny Jeans (true to size, size down if between) They bring back a similar Leith cardigan each NSALE so I already owns something similar. For $50 I didn’t think the quality of this cardigan was that great. I love the look of it and length of it (though the length – especially the sleeves – might not work for shorter gals) but I passed on this.
Leith Crossover Sweater (size small) // Articles of Society High Rise Jeans (true to size, size down if between) This sweater is low cut and nursing friendly. I’d be likely to pair it with a cami for more modest coverage. I don’t like tops too fitted so I went with the larger of the two sizes I go between. I find Articles of Society jeans stretch just a bit more throughout the day than the Wit and Wisdom pair I put in my top buys.
Thermal LS Top (Small) // Leopard PJ Shorts (Size small, also available in a joggers version) These pieces are both cozy and soft!
BP Lounge top (small) // Alo Moto Leggings (X-small) I didn’t feel like this color of leggings was flattering on me so I passed on these but Alo leggings are amazing quality!
Alo Yoga Jacket (wearing small because X-small wasn’t available) // Zella Live in Leggings (XS) This jacket is awesome but definitely a statement piece so consider how much you’d wear something like this. I had this last winter and wore it quick a bit since I wear lounge/workout clothes most days. The hood is detachable. The leggings were picking up a lot of lint in the dressing room but the fit is amazing. I own these cell phone pocket black leggings so I passed on this Zella pair despite their cult following.
Leopard Belted Long Coat (XS) This coat runs big, I’d recommend sizing down. I liked the material but I didn’t think it looked that great belted. It was more flattering worn open. I passed on this because I don’t dress up often enough that I’d get much wear out of a piece like this. Below you will find pieces that brands I love sent me ahead of the sale so I could pass my feedback on to all of you!
Gibson Pink Top (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Jeans (sized down one) // Panacea Bracelet This top is really pretty for work or date night! I would size down one in the jeans. They’re a cropped straight leg so they aren’t tight at the ankles like skinny jeans. Cute with sneakers or sandals.
Gibson White Top (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Jeans (sized down 1) // Panacea Bracelet I want to love this top but the stitching around the neckline is a bit uneven so I’m unsure how it will hold up in the wash. In a darker color you may not be able to tell the top hem is uneven (or maybe it’s unique to my particular top).
Something Navy Pink Sweater (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Gray Skinny Jeans (sized down 1) // Bracelet This sweater is a great basic. Easy to layer in the cooler months. As far as these jeans – I’ll talk about them on Instagram stories. They are long (for my fellow tall gals) and I sized down one for an extra snug, hold you in, fit.
Gibson Snakeskin cardigan (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Gray Skinny Jeans (sized down 1) // Panacea Bracelet The snakeskin of this cardigan is printed on a sweatshirt type material which isn’t particularly soft.
Puff Shoulder Tee (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Gray Skinny Jeans (sized down 1) // Panacea Bracelet This puff sleeve tee is adorable! Feels like a tee but looks a bit more polished. There are several color options for this tee.
Sanctuary Camo Shirt Jacket (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Skinny Jeans (true to size, size down if between) This Camo shirt jacket is light enough to wear on cool evenings or layer over sweaters in the fall. I like this one though I would have liked the cut a bit more trim. The jeans are by Wit and Wisdom – a brand I LOVE. This pair is ankle length for they’re a tad short for me since I’m 5/11″. Some of their jeans run a full size big, this pair fits pretty true to size but if you’re between sizes and like your jeans REALLY fitted, size down.
Puff Sleeve Tee (XS) // Sanctuary Wide Leg Cropped Pants (true to size) // Sandals (true to size, not included in the sale) Wide leg pants have been a huge trend lately! For fall you could pair these with a sweater or button down and mules. While these pants aren’t sheer I wouldn’t wear dark underwear with them.
Puff Sleeve Tee (XS) // Sanctuary Wide Leg Cropped Pants (true to size) // Amazon Pearl Sandals (true to size, slow shipping) These are the same wide leg pants in an olive color. Again – wear these now with sandals or come fall with mules or loafers.
Sanctuary Plaid Overcoat (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Skinny Jeans (true to size, but size down if between) This coat does not have much shape to it. I like the way it fits but if you’re looking for something that looks tailored – this is not it. It’s lightweight – more of a fall than winter coat.
Something Navy Drapey Blazer (XS) // Something Navy Wide Leg Trousers (wearing 0 and they’re small on me, so true to size) So I have to be honest – I would not wear a full menswear look like the suit above. I like to pair “menswear” or fuller fitting items with more fitted pieces….see below for how I would style these pieces.
Something Navy Puff Shoulder Tee (XS) // Something Navy Wide Leg Trousers (true to size) I love wide leg trousers paired with more fitted tops. This pants are not long enough for me (I’m 5’11”) that I could pair them with heel which is how I prefer to wear wide leg pants.
Because the blazer has a fuller cut I would pair it with skinny pants.
Something Navy Blazer (XS) // Amazon Cami (XS) // Wit and Wisdom Skinny Jeans (true to size, down down if between) // Black Pumps (true to size, not included in the sale)
