So if I’m going through the trouble of cooking and cleaning to host a holiday party, I want to know people will have a good time.   Today I’m sharing my top 5 tips for hosting a fun holiday party in collaboration with Macy’s.  Now through December 10th, save 30% with code FRIEND.

Tips for Hosting a Fun Holiday Party

You probably know Macy’s for their chic cocktail attire and consider them an easy place to find a New Year’s Eve dress, but did you know they have all the supplies to make your holiday party the most memorable one of the year?   Macy’s carries so many fun and funny options for holiday party dressing as well as home pieces every fun hostess should have on hand.   Seriously you have to check out their “ugly” holiday sweater section – it’s the best I’ve seen!

I often get asked about whether or not I drink since I am open about my husband being an alcoholic.   The answer is YES!   I drink, we both still party, he just doesn’t drink when we party.    As a 36 year old mother I have a new definition of “party”.  My kids enjoyed the “drinking games” you’ll see below even more than me.  Alcohol doesn’t make a party – the people who show up to have fun do!

So here are some easy reminders on how to streamline the good times….

Tip 1: Dress Like The Life of the Party

Get people laughing as soon as they walk in the door.   Costume parties aren’t just for Halloween.   Macy’s has so many cute options for looking overly festive.   How could someone not laugh when they walk in the door to a hostess dresses as a Christmas tree?   Here are some of my favorite funny holiday outfits:

Tip 2: Make A Fun Holiday Playlist

You want festive music that leans more towards dancing than cuddling by the fire.    “Rockin Around The Christmas Tree” and N’Sync’s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” come to mind as good party starters.   I grabbed this cute phone amplifier from Macy’s and it makes a great hostess gift too!  My mind is blown – it acts like a speaker with no cord or batteries.   Seriously – you can take it anywhere!!  I’m shocked how well it works so it’s a great gift – especially for low tech folks like myself.

Tip 3: Have A Signature Cocktail

People who don’t normally come to dance will cut a rug after a signature Santa martini!!    I found this Santa hat drink recipe on a food blog and I thought it was perfect for a holiday gathering.   I updated my barware (I love these classic martinis glasses) for such a great price on Macy’s website!   Since my husband doesn’t drink I rarely make martinis at home unless I have guests.   This martini shaker set is just the right size for a small gathering.

Tip 4: Serve Finger Foods

In my opinion parties are most fun when people are up and mingling.  Serve plenty of finger foods and desserts.   To make life easier ask each person to bring something or have the party catered.   Don’t add extra stress to your plate during the holidays.  Most people come for the company more than the food.  I like to serve food on cutting boards.  I think it looks casual yet chic.  The cutting board I grabbed is on sale under $30!

Tip 5: Have Games!

Nothing breaks the ice like party games.   Always fun, always a good way to start the laughs, and Macy’s has SO MANY fun party games.   I grabbed a bunch because these are not just adult drinking games.   I play these games with my family and leave out the alcohol and we all love them!!
